Telnames: Have you considered the most effective way to sell .tel domains (and this even for free)?

Visit every SMB in London personally and ask 3 questions:

• Do you have a mobile website?
  
• Do you want to have one completely ready in 5 minutes for £14.95?
  
• May I give you my business card?

Direct contact to potential customers is much more effective than any advertisement!

To sell one .tel domain would need only 5 minutes! And for sure you'll be welcomed with open doors!
In one day you could sell 100 .tel domains! That would be more than 10 times what you are selling now (with daily registrations less than 10 pieces at Telnames!
(Most .tel registrations are still happening with other registrars for Telnic instead.)

And in addition soon the word of mouth will do the rest!

So please leave the office, don't waste your time on exhibitions anymore and visit every restaurant, every plumber etc. in London!

It doesn't cost you anything!

Well they should start with a web link referral scheme that goes behind the right side .tel logo that everyone complained about, and then let those of us registered to resell .tels print off a paper business card with a "code" that gives the customer a small % off but also lets the "sales man" or woman get a referral as it's their 5% off code or no tax or whatever.

But they won't go one to one because it's time consuming, the reason behind trade shows and exhibitions is because you have a wide range of people who are capable of paying and are interested in being marketed too under one roof.

For them to do it one on one in the street is not efficient marketing, they could do leaflet drops to local businesses like every restaurant and glass house / window sales man does but one on one should be their own customers.

So far the previous marketing hasn't been efficient, either!

The problem with leaflets is they are going to the trash bin before anybody has taken a look at it.

If you speak to the owner of a SMB and he has a need for a mobile website already (but just haven't thought about it), then he won't hesitate to buy a .tel!

The advantage is with this you would reach the right prospects, but many other marketing activities mainly go to people who don’t even listen to what Telnames has to offer!

The most effective way to get .tels sold worldwide is via an international Affiliate portal such as http://www.CJ.com or http://www.TradeDoubler.com

They probably have well over 100,000 affiliates (many with multiple web sites) between them - the advertiser pays a percentage to the publisher only on a successful sale - though there is usually a minimum charge per month to the advertiser.

Once this is set up the current figure of approximately 10 Telname sales per day will look puny - there could easily be several hundred/thousand of sites worldwide promoting Telnames .tel domains.

But the deal needs to be right to atttract publishers - a minimum 30 day cookie (the period you get credit for the sale if the user clicks through from your site initially but subsequently buys after going direct) and a commission around 30% (with no restriction on affiliates getting commission on their own domains).

Once an Affiliate program is set up, Telnames .tel sales are likely to take off !
