Integrating .tel in a regular website Today has seen the launch of http://www.mayotoday.ie, a website for County Mayo (Ireland), dedicated to bringing the latest Mayo news to a global audience and guiding those who want to enjoy cinema, music, theatre, etc. in the region. It’s a unique website. At first sight it looks like a regular one, but if you take some time to explore the place you will find that it integrates several .tel pages. After clicking the Mayo Directory button you will see a list of towns in Mayo, from from Achill to Westport and Other locations. If you click such a link you enter a .tel domain. If you go to the ‘local links’ in one of the columns on the right you will find guides to golf clubs, restaurants, etc. The website itself is optimised for mobile devices, but for fast and easy communication the related .tel domains are more important. In fact the website serves as a gateway to .tel pages, which simplifies searching via the use of folders and facilitates communication by only a few clicks. As .tel is such a new way to communicate this is an important way to promote awareness among target groups. Make a website for your specific business, connect to your .tel domains, and show the pleasure of using the domain pages. Well done, Anthony Hickey, you’re setting an example for all of us! Note: Steve R. is doing a great job too. See his http://dialaroom.tel, which is supported by http://dialaroom.info and http://dialaroomdottel.co.uk |

@edjeplanet and JLuisBiz thanks for your very kind words. It is only the start and I intend to continue to spread the word in my little corner of the world about the power of .tel The reaction so far has been very positive and encouraging and with the imminent arrival of TelPages and the new-look template, .tel is going to go from strength to strength. |
@edjeplanet thanks, I too, appreciated mayo.tel and mayotoday.ie and have clear links from http://mayo.southern-ireland.ireland-dialaroom.tel/(with Mr Hickey's permission), they are a great enhancement to that particular directory, as well as giving them both a well deserved link. I like all .tellers are eagerly awaiting the new look template, I am holding back a lot of refining and an advertising programme for it's arrival some time this month (anyone know when?) . I actually have people asking me to advertise their accommodation on Dial a Room and as soon as the new template is out, I am launching Dial a Room in another Country (can't tell you which yet, Top Secret at the moment). Who says you can't monetise a .tel or make international or huge directories. Public enthusiasm for .tel is growing, it is nearly always best served by living in harmony with a web based site. (I have the .co domain already set up for the next country, ready to post and promote to the web). I totally agree with JL .tel and web based sites are mutually symbiotic in my view, image Telnic trying to sell .tels from just a .tel and you'll see what I mean. Again thanks edjeplanet, you ain't seen nothing yet. |
http://www.mayotoday.ie - Nice professional looking site with clever integration. I like the way it is both linking directly to DotTel and indirectly (via Twitter location specific sites) from the Mayo Local News in the right-hand column of every page - the SEO benefits from this should flow pretty well. Be interesting to see how the monetisation of this site develops. Mike Seaton |
JLouisBiz, tony mayo, dialaroom and mikeseaton, thanks for your comments. Steve, I visited Dial a Room Ireland. It looks promising indeed! I saw you make links to http://hotelscombined.com. After choosing an accomodation in one of the Mayo places a visitor gets one option and that is to go to the hotelscombined website, where he can find useful basic information about the hotel of his choice. Of course more options with contact information of the hotels will follow. It’s interesting to see that you and Anthony are now linking to each other, which is beneficial to both of you. By the way, as the urls to the hotelscombined pages are pretty long it could be an option to show more professional looking urls. At the moment I’m creating a .tel site with short urls via http://www.fromtel.com I must say I’m quite happy with these ‘fromtel.com/…’ links. Mike, I had a look at http://www.net-link.com/tel when you released it in the beginning of February (‘Net-Link: Easiest way to search most relevant parts of web’, I tweeted). Speaking of intelligent applications! Since it enables searching the most relevant parts of the internet –not only webpages as such but also social media interactions and .tel pages– in terms of the specific search tools it offers Net-Link is a better search engine than Google. Of course we know Google is adapting their engine, and without doubt it will be a huge job to make Net-Link presenting the most relevant results in the right order, but that does not alter my opinion that Net-Link is potentially one of the most important search engines of the future. http://edje.tel |
I have tried many times to integrate Dot Tel into a website but have never been able to do it. |

The ".tel "Contact Us" page for existing websites": How To: You have: mycompany.com You could have: mycompany.tel And therefore could also have: mycompany.com/contactus Explanation: contactus = Contact Us = Contact Page = .tel Contact Us Page = copy of mycompany.tel on existing website (mycompany.tel). Example: http://www.cakeinabox.co.uk/shop/pages/contactus.html How To: http://www.tel-domain-forum.de/ger_d...r_website.html Quick and simple method, for "dummies and developers, as well) (without Google map): Show the content of your .Tel Site on your Website by using JavaScript: For this you only need to embed the following code into your contact page of your existing website: ------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And simply replace jepaa.tel with your own .tel domain name (myname.tel). . And so, this would be the other .tel contact page (business contact) "Created by mycompany.com". It is called the ".tel "Contact Us" page for existing websites". . |

I know there are some great scripts out there for putting your .tel in a web site, but the quickest and easiest way I use is in an iframe using html below. The text in the brackets is alternative text to be displayed if the browser does not support iframes, the width and height can be set to whatever you want. I'm don't think it's very search engine friendly, but it does a the job. Now watch me get shot down in flames by all the clever javascript programmers out there. |
. ------------------------------------------------------------- [B]------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And simply replace jepaa.tel with your own .tel domain name (myname.tel). . |
Many thanks Dialaroom and Mactel, I will give it a go. Cheers Bill |
Welcome, Bill. Drop us a feedback. Enjoy .tel. It can work. |
