If Telnic planned the high price in the beginning why they started with £10 less in the first place?

Perhaps it was a trial phase to test the market. With start of the global marketing campaign and the redesign of Telnames in 2013 the original calculation will take place.

    @Sunrise - It's called a "loss-leader" - pretty standard marketing practice by many businesses.

Entice customers in with a low initial price, get them committed by them spending time and resources (in this case inputting their data, promoting their new URL etc), then hike the renewal price to improve your profit margins.

ICANN efffectively prevents this happening with all other extensions because they insist on you being able to transfer away to another registrar, with you able to reload your web site at your new registrar.

But in this case if you do that you lose the Telnames template, and what many call their ".tel web site", since the Telnames template is NOT available at any other registrar.

That's just how it is - the real question to be considered is could the price go up again ?

What would protect Telnames .tel registrants is for the Telnames template to be available at other Telnic registrars (competition of course keeps prices down)

I've argued consistently that this is the right thing to do morally (given the 1-year plus of negligible Telnic .tel development whilst Telnames was created) but got nowhere !

    Surprised ?

How would you go about transferring away from Telnames back to a .Tel with another registrar.

Would it be possible? Would you have to wait 60days?

I'm quite appalled by the price hike, who is to say that renewals won't be even higher than buying them in the first place?

60 days after the last transfer you can transfer it again with the auth code which you have to request from http://www.telnames.com/contact-us/

It seems fоr me, thаt theу think thаt оnсe user gоt his Telnаmes' TEL, he will be resоlved tо keep it fоrever, tо the lаst his breаth, аnd fоr аnу соst.

Of соurse, I саn be wrоng, but it соuld be thаt there will hаppen just the оppоsite thing: when the first уeаr will pаss оver, then the hаppу Telnаmes' TEL owner will drоp his TEL beсаuse оf its usefullness. Nо оne wаnts tо thrоw his £14.95 thrоugh the windоw just fоr fun. And if we will аdd here аlsо the drаstiс rise оf priсe, then the аmоunt оf drоps lоgiсаllу shоuld rise up even mоre.

It wоuld be mоre intelligent mоve, if Telnаmes wаnting tо rise the priсe, did this in а deliсаte wау: аdding subfоlders fоr their TELs аnd mаking mоre оther "bells аnd thistles". And, of course, leaving fоr user а сhоiсe: tо соntinue hаving оne-pаge TEL fоr £14.95 оr tо get а "super-puper-vip-TEL" versiоn fоr £24.95 (with а tаle including, hоw it is niсe fоr Gооgle tо hаve multi-fоlder TEL).

    .
I'd be happy paying a higher price only if they provide extras like wallets, I don't see the point in paying more for what I get now as it is all ready too much to barely be justified, and think of it this way is a one man/woman start up going to invest £30-40-50-100? a year in a micro site? when it's been pointed out they have so many other options marketed to them that in most cases now rival not having to do anything like telnames!, but if the plan is to invest what they take from us into more development then I'm happier to pay as I know more is coming and after that it's a justified cost I would gladly let them pocket and continue to pay as I continue to use it, if not then then it becomes less and less justified.
    .
In fact right now I could take the telnames theme and run a mod of it on a none tel site at a way cheaper price, so what am I paying for? to be included in the fabled online phone directory? to be able to network? be a part of a business community? a start up community? to get discounts from other tel members on business services/advice? to be able to pay someone by their .tel without paypal?
    .
No as a one man I'm paying for it to do what it needs to do and unfortunately they don't seem to want to do any of the above or rock the boat with external services or even consider it as anything other than just a card, cards get shared as we've said over and over, and sharing a card during networking means networking! so wheres the network? wheres the warehouse for startups to trade materials/goods with other tel startups? which would create a sort of circle economy of tel growth that supports itself and offers a reason for people to want to be included and get a tel.
    .
If they want more money, we want more additions it's as simple as that.

I do not count money, which belong to others, but then I see that number of 35,000,000 (which number already had became here a constant), then the same idea comes: "what man can do for gaining such money?"

By the way, if Telnames will promise to add to this "super-puper-vip-TEL" 10,000 subfolders, then they would find buyers for such TEL even from this forum members.

A lot of members would be happy about only 5 folders at Telnames and more than the 3,000 from Telnic are not necessary.

It is not necessary for ordinary TEL-owner to use all these 10,000 folders. And very few would use them in practice, but it is good for TEL-owner to know, that he can use them if he will need them.

Plus, it is good for advertizing compaing because it sounds seriously and good.

May be, that something like a such system could be viewed by people as a reasonable. As a greed is a sin, I marked prices in dollars:

$9.95: current version 1 folder (with promo code)
    $14.95: current version 1 folder
    $24.95: current version + 1,000 folders
    $34.95: current version + 2,000 folders
    $44.95: current version + 3,000 folders
    -
    -
    -
    $89.95: current version + 9,000 folders
    $99.95: current version + 10,000 folders

Insteаd оf аnnоuncing оf the rаising оf prices, Telnаmes cоuld аnnоunce thаt lоwest price stауs the sаme, but becаuse "оf multiple requests frоm Telnаmes cоmmunitу", theу intrоduce TELs with mоre fоlders аnd the price nоw will depend оn the versiоn TEL-оwner cаn chооse himself.

If he will need tо get а "higher" versiоn before the expiration of his previous registration, then he simply will need tо pау аdditiоnаllу fоr number оf dауs left till dоmаin expirаtiоn. Perhaps, it is not difficult to make a programm for such paying system.

In this wау the rаise оf prices will be seen nоt аs а rаise, but аs а cаre оf Telnаmes' TEL-оwners interests. Peоple like such things.

Аlsо, if this campaign will be supplied with аn explаnаtiоn, thаt TEL with fоlders cаn be prоmоted bу Gооgle seаrches much better then withоut them, then this cаn stоp frоm drоpping TELs thоse TEL-оwners whо were аlreаdу dissаpоinted with their оne-pаge-TELs.

Telnic made a smart move with founding Telnames.
Telnames is identified neither as registry nor as registrar.
I even don't know what they are from the public view.
But it's the first organization in the domain world that has evaded the regulation by ICANN - proven successfully already.
Hence Telnames can act freely including adjusting the retail price whenever they want.
Instead the official registry Telnic shall provide each registrar notice of any price increase of no less than 30 calendar days for initial domain name registrations and no less than 180 calendar days for renewal of domain name registrations.

But it doesn't seem to be so easy for a registry to increase the prices according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICANN#Notable_events
On February 28, 2006, ICANN's board approved a settlement with VeriSign in the lawsuit resulting from SiteFinder that involved allowing VeriSign (the registry) to raise its registration fees by up to 7% a year. This was criticised by some people in the US House of Representatives' Small Business committee.
For .com it was always difficult: http://www.domainarts.com/2011/11/22/upcoming-verisign-price-increase-reminder-of-icanns-failure/

Alex, the pictures are being chopped in half in a few browsers.

The mystery price (in the picture is 9.99)
So are you able to renew your telname now before the price increases?

    @Sunrise - Great Idea !

Simple, clear, and gets initial interest going with the £0 starter option !

BUT this would have to be available at ALL registrars to avoid even more confusion than currently exists in marketing .tel worldwide to "Joe Public".

As someone pointed out the other day on this forum, all major internet billion dollar success stories offer a Free Account to build a "critical mass" of users.

Think Facebook, Google, Skype, Twitter, etc. - all free to sign up to !

How many millionaires (assuming a staff discount share scheme) would be working at Telnic/Telnames now if this approach had been adopted in March 2009 ?

Kash - this really could work - surely it can't be worse than the scenario those involved in the .tel project currently face ?
