Sale of .tel to a large business failed Empty Sale of .tel to a large business failed

Post by TelWorld 2014-03-12, 5:56 pm

Today I tried to introduce .tel to a global market leader in call center management (for the registration price of $10 only).

The mobile web solution to build a phone directory would fit best for this company, but …

… it’s not possible to include pictures next to the phone numbers.
… it’s not possible to sort text, pictures and phone numbers in a logical order.
… it’s not possible to create a mobile website that looks moderately acceptable.

(Note: Telnames isn’t an option for directories, because the offer doesn't include folders.)

Thanks to Telnic, .tel is an unsalable product!

These are very basic requirements. Telnic wasn't able to fix them in the last 5 years.
I'm sure one of the registries responsible for one of the more than 1,000 new generic top-level domains will find a solution for it.

@Tim - to be precise Telnic WAS ABLE to fix these issues in the last 5 years (it's a few weeks coding/testing max) but CHOSE NOT TO.

Since Telnic decided to switch their (somewhat depleted now I would guess) programming resources to Telnames they have had no interest whatsoever in developing or marketing the original Telnic subdomain version of .tel.

The Roadmap for Telnic subdomain .tels was dropped suddenly on 1 July 2011, never to re-appear, and all the TV and Radio ads, Affiliate program, Business shows, Blogging, etc, etc are now only for the Telnames single page version of .tel.

So whether anyone agrees with their stance or not, it is absolutely clear that Telnic do not see any future in the original subdomain version of .tel - ACTIONS (or lack of them in this case) always speak LOUDER than WORDS.

Shame they haven't passed this message across to their 133 Registrars !

By the way, for those who complain there is NO .TEL GLOBAL DIRECTORY it does in fact exist !

How do I know - because Telnic said so - see http://telnic.org/tour-global-directory.html !

You couldn't make some of this stuff up - but when you've been given $35,000,000 of other people's money to fund your software development ideas it could distort your viewpoint - spending your own money focusses the mind much more !

.tel is dead - and it's dead because of one reason:
.tel is dead because Telnic wanted it to be dead!
Telnic killed .tel by stopping even the minimum of development!

As angry and depressed it makes me its justified telnic stopped doing anything, because its to buy time in the hope something changes, but nothing will change without investment and some kind of development. Even if its not development of the proxy some networking should be done. They should go to Silicon Valley and network and try to get them to build apps and sites around tel to make it popular. If you haven't noticed Silicon Valley has a habit of marketing themselves via all the tech blogs etc which filter out into social networks and get to Joe public who gets hyped and tries out their sites and apps, they support and hype themselves.

I doubt pretty much that waiting for changes from other parties is better than presenting a service that can be used by endusers.
I can only conclude that Telnic has no clue what to do.
But we have discussed this many times.
It's useless trying to search for common sense at Telnic.

Sale of .tel to a large business failed Empty Mobile Marketing and Landing pages portals / calling numbers and directory of keywords for MO SMS sent to shortcode

Post by TELwax 2014-03-20, 5:09 pm

    hmm ...

Well it depends what is the final goal from the call center.
If they are looking for a flexible fully versatile mobile web directory to host their campaigns, it is only half way to it. .

Half seems too low compliancy, and do no expect the Templates to change quickly , or to be fully customizable, you know that.

indeed dot TEL is based on fixed structured designs (nice, nicer , more ugly , or more Advanced, whatever, these are still templates) ,not on a mobile responsive highly flexible 80K-100K USD full custom flexible mobile design + monthly maintenance/edition cost.

On the other hand , if they are running push SMS campaigns, than a dot TEL directory is the perfect place to easily host instant landing pages or landing pages portals, which mobile responsive url can be pushed (wap pushed , or SMS pushed) in the body of the broadcast SMS .

AND , such landing pages will offer multiple re-engagement methods to mobile users visiting the pushed url , as dot TEL "pages" genuinely and simply include click-to-call , click-to-SMS , and click-to-USSD (subject  to full compliancy of mobile browsers) capability, that can be reached by most 2G and 3G phones (wap/ GPRS, EDGE, 3G , WIFI).

So if call center is handling multimedia/multichannel campaigns, or SMS games campaigns with MO SMS pushing selected keywords to a short code, that might still be of interest.
If this cross channels mix is not their trend / added value, they will not value the .TEL enough, at least at levels that you expect, although it is stil possible to have click to call phone numbers immediately above or below some images (although not adjacent to it, and indeed not in a very customisable way).

The call center service provider needs a simple mobile website / a directory with acceptable design and a list of all call center agents including profile pictures (avatars) of the agents next to their phone numbers. That’s all!

Since .tel couldn’t provide such a solution, this company has decided to let a programmer create such a directory.
It will include hundreds of phone numbers and avatars in a list. It's a very simple request!
