    Telnic,

With the delivery of the new templates last week you have provided a huge step forward for the design of .tel domains.

Unfortunately some elementary features for .tel domains are still missing which are needed doubtless to provide customers with .tel domains an adequate tool:

    • Flexible insertion of multiple text entries, enlargement of text entries, and text formatting:
A few possibilities like bold and italic font, a small selection of fonts and long text would help a lot already!
This is indispensable for the possibility of creation blogs and product specifications (and doesn't need to harm the original purpose for mainly displaying contact information on .tel domains).

    • Background pictures (Wallpapers)
    • Direct upload of pictures, ads and videos via the control panel
    • Realization of all intended features for template 8 (see here)

Since we don’t know your future plans, I like to appeal to work first on these features before you start any other development efforts.

Even new marketing activities should wait until the delivery of these enhancements, because they are so important for .tel owners and prospects. Otherwise I’m afraid .tel can’t satisfy market demands.

After that the following developments are very important, too:

    • Content management system for .tel domains on desktops (see here)
    • Usability and design of Telfriends
    • Activities from the roadmap (see here)

Thank you very much for your support!

Alex, I totally agree on these features and requests at a minimum. Have you emailed Telnic and rcvd a response?

    Mark,

Thank you for this positive feedback.

I just have submitted this information at Telnic, but I also want to give other members the possibility to discuss this topic here.

I guess all of us are interested in the future success of .tel - and this seems to be the most important topic of all.

Thank you for participation to Telnic and all .tel members!

Points 2 and 3 are probably intended by Telnic already (without time frame). But I need point 1 the most (and other .tel domainers for sure, too)!

One of the most important things I think is the ability to move folders with all the information they contain around a domain.

We obviously need an updated Roadmap - see http://www.teltalk.org/t145-the-long-lost-tel-roadmap-uncovered - but I suspect this has gone forever !

Indeed we need an updated roadmap.

After the release of 4 new templates (3 for Telnic and 1 for Telnames) the developers will continue to work on something.

But most importantly Telnic should include the wishes of their customers. And .tel owners need to know what the future brings.

Therefore an open communication between provider and customers is needed - and the roadmap is an important medium for it.

The roadmap would be the sign the needs of customers still have relevance!

    I see a problem:
With the introduction of the 3 new templates Telnic have shown they implement most new features only based for every single template.
Enhancements from one template are not available for other templates.
But Background pictures, positioning of longer text entries, new icons with a fresh design and moving folders need to be available for all templates!
Telnic probably won’t like it, but now they have to improve 8 templates (instead of previously 5).

If this is too much work, then please give us a template 9 with background pictures and possibility for entering long / formatted text.

But it would make more sense to implement background pictures, long text and exchange of the antiquated icons in all templates for sure.

Otherwise there is no reason to use templates 1 - 8 anymore.

The coding to display the background picture (already developed for the Telnames template as mentioned in http://www.teltalk.org/t5-nice-background-pictures#1043) will be identical for the 8 Telnic templates.

Just test it on one, put the coding in a server side "include" file, and it will work on the remaining 7 Telnic templates.

Mark would rattle off this update (using the existing Telnames code) in between breakfast and lunch !

Dottel should be focused on communication, but by implementing text in the way as shown above this purpose can be kept! I would be very happy to have this option!

For somebody who needed 2 years for programming only 3 simple templates, it can be very overwhelming task to adjust. I even doubt Telnic employ software developers on regular base. Perhaps they hire them only occasionally.

After all development has been stopped in 2011 completely, perhaps after the recent release of 2 1/2 new templates it’s time for another long, long vacation. Template 8 is still not delivered as designed! Even worse since launch in 2009 nobody has ever worked on Telpages and Telfriends.

There is no doubt inserting distinctive text options into tel domains is indispensable. The problem is during the last 3 years overall we have seen only very small changes. I don’t know if Telnic is willing to work just a little bit harder to fulfill customer requirements.
