URGENT DEVELOPMENT REQUEST

It’s a must-have!
We can’t use tel-domains for social networking and as replacement of phone numbers yet. Therefor if tel-domains should become successful by the use as a website, at least we must be able to add text! The available one-liner as info text can't be inserted in a useable manner. It's impossible to sell tel-domains as a website like they are today!

@TOPTEL can you give examples of what you need changed?

I can’t use tel-domains as blog, product catalog, resume, company profile and (most of all) as distinguished brand label.
For that I would need to insert additional text, but instead I can insert only contact data. Currently I have two alternatives which are impossible to use for creating any of the above mentioned examples:

I don’t understand either why I can insert text only at the end of the website.

You can use the "Note" option to add text at any point - see http://newsletters.dot-tel.mikeseaton.tel for an example of this.

But Telnames (http://www.Telnames.com) - the only marketed form of the .Tel extension - are clearly not targeting their product as a web site replacement but as a single point of contact for all communication and web entities.

So any complaints that .Tel isn't something that it's not even being marketed as will probably fall on deaf ears !

Thank you, but I can't use the note option for longer text, right? Let's say I want to write my CV with longer text for examples of my work experiences. Can I do that?

Not sure what the maximum number of characters is for a "Note" entry, but I'm sure it's considerably less than even a short CV !

.Tel with it's many restrictions is not really the right extension for such an activity - why not just use Wordpress or one of the many "web site builder" packages available ?

That's a new page to me !

What Telnic are actually talking about here are links to your information, rather than storing the information itself in your .Tel.

So you can have a mega-long CV stored somewhere on the web, along with all other relevant information relating to your work history, and you use your .Tel to provide a quick and easy means of accessing the various items of data from a single place.

That was the initial stated purpose of .Tel by Telnic i.e. a single point of contact for all communication and web activities.

During the last 3 years that idea was lost as many used the subdomain facility to try and build .Tel into a conventional web site.

It has now been resurrected as the way forward for .Tel with the launch of http://www.Telnames.com and the http://YourBusiness.tel single-page template.

So yes http://telnic.org/telforyou-professionals-jobseekers.html has been misinterpreted as referring to content rather than links to content - the critical word on this page is connects.

you're right! If you don'T pay attention to the word "connects" the meaning change complete. But there is more to consider: Telnic wrote "Impress employers with an interactive online resume they won't forget." Do Telnic want job seekers give a BAD impression on the web by fragmentation of information? And what about the intended easy use of .tel domains? If I have to place my bio on other resources anyway, why not writing my whole resume there? What do I need a .tel domain for in this case?

In other words: just provide text in the format you just wrote.

Have you tried using Custom Keywords? They give bold headings in same order you create them ... www.oakridges.tel

This is great!

If the .tel owner places only keywords on the .tel domain (or a subdomain of it), it's even possible to move this content to the top of that .tel!
(Contact data could be placed in another subdomain.)

The freedom for text arrangements is still limited, but this section looks nice.

In 2009 Telnic promoted .tel as an easy way to create an online presence. Should this be the final result after 3 years?

No - this is - http://YourBusiness.tel - with video, image gallery, coupon and background image all easily updateable via the user's control panel.

Just a shame the Telnic offshoot http://www.Telnames.com hasn't so far made this template and control panel available to the mass of .Tel Registrars !

Mark, you have delivered the best what could be provided, but I have the following problems:
- Header without further specification (which I wanted to use as titles) occur at the bottom.
- The styling possibilities are very limited.
- I inserted all entries at the same time, but the sorting occurs disordered.

Why big pictures can be added only for template 8?
Why pictures, text and videos can't be added with the control panel?
Why only one video can be added on every sub domain?
Why the content can't be arranged flexible (text only on top, on the right and on the bottom / videos only at the bottom / big pictures only on top)?
Why no modern icons can be used and why they can't be replaced by the user?
Why there are so little styling options?
Why .tel doesn't offer anything what any other TLD can't offer?
Why it takes years to realize the smallest improvements?

Since it seems keywords are still useless when used for content, I have created a resume with advertisement instead: Niki Knockout
The downside is all entries show the remark “Sponsored Links”, although they are no advertisement.
Another bad issue is I can’t arrange the sequence on the subdomain. Pictures and videos appear all in the middle (after the text on top and before the bottom text) as you can see in the resume.

Because of the limitations, this is the best I could realize. Does anybody have suggestions for improvements?

Yes, by using your third party tool everybody can use the ad section for creating stunning .tel domains.
I have chosen template 8 to have the possibility integrating bigger pictures (unfortunately only one per subdomain).
Thank you Mark - for offering the possibility to create amazing .tel domains which I have never seen before!

Now we would need only the following things to have the ability creating a proper website with .tel domains:
- Adding more than one picture and / or video per subdomain
- Flexible arrangement of content
- Background pictures
- Direct change of .tel domains without third party tools
So perhaps it doesn't take long anymore until Telnic will release a mature product.

It has been suggested by myself and several others in the last year or two (on Telnic's forum) that Telnic make Mark "an offer he can't refuse" to buy out Telmasters tools, incorporate them into the Telnic Control Panel, and retain Mark as an ongoing consultant.

But this request repeatedly falls on deaf ears !

It can't really be the money - I would imagine 1,000,000 CAD (equivalent to 632,424 GBP according to XE.com today) would be acceptable to both sides and would hardly make a dent in Telnic's nearly 10,000,000 GBP in the bank at the last accounts posting.

So there must be another reason - my guess is Telnic would not wish to add things like user-updateable video, images, coupon, background image via the Control Panel for fear of stepping on Telnames toes which is the only version of .tel currently being marketed !
