phone name Ideal scenario: Tom : i must call Bob, Tom grab a Iphone, and dial Bob.tel Beep, beep Bob : Hello ? Tom ? Present scenario: Tom : i must call Bob, Tom grab a Iphone, connect to AppStore, Search for a third party application, select it, download it, search it, launch it, dial Bob.tel, search for the phone number and call it. Beep, beep Bob : Hello ? Tom ? Ok, can you see a slight difference between the 2 scenarios ? Yes, 7 extra steps that make calling Bob phone number much easier that using .tel And what about using a web browser to contact bob.tel ? well this is like searching yellow pages, an eavy, non elegant extra step.... If i was Telnic, i would make heavy lobbying on Apple for Iphone to NATIVLY dial .tel ( do not tel me about plugin, webapps, webbrowser, this is ugly) If i was Telnic, i would make heavy lobbying on Cinema movies about future to make heroes dial phone name (ideally .tel) instead of phone number. All those people talking about ppc, seo, adsens.... for .tel make me sick. Focusing on .tel for the web is killing .tel If i was telnic, .tel would be only a contextual pointer (resolver). Dialled from a phone, it would be a phone number. Dialled from skype, it would be a skype user id... That would be a kicking ass feature. |
I think hakita has nailed it right... all this BS about seo/ppc/adsense is distracting from what .tel was made for... the more ppl try to fit .tel into what "they think" .tel is, the further we get from making this technology a success... Are you guys talking to the phone manufacturers? Or Apple? Or telephone hardware vendors? |

You are correct but this is not something that was missed by the community to discuss on. Many of the memebers here including me has raised this in the forums. If I am not wrong, this is not something that can be achieved in a day or two. I even remember someone from Telnic accepting the importance of this and I believe they are doing their part on this side. Coming to on-line promotion, it is VERY important for any domain extension no matter if that is .tel or other extension. Most importantly as long as the extension need traffic from search engines or other on-line sources then one cannot rule out the importance of the on-line promotion. Last but not least, getting a .tel button or the software on to the mobile phone as a basic feature is not an easy or quick task. Well, if telnic could gets this in to reality then ofcourse one will be less concerned about the online promotion. But either ways it would not be sensible just to rule out the importance of on-line promotion.[/size] |
