    Software-built Business Directories

There has been a lot of talk about software being developed to build business directories from the structured fields held in the "Keywords" section of .tels.

This currently contains the following data: name, address, business address, business information, directory information, hobbies & interests, free text.

But to build any form of "yellow pages" style directory you need to be able to identify which business classification (from a finite list) applies to a business.

There is "Business Area" under the Directory Information heading, but this is a free format field.

If Telnic could incorporate a dropdown list of univerally-accepted Business Classifications then the chance of software-built structured business directories being developed would IMO be substantially increased.

Could this be incorporated in the next release of the CTH control panel?

One further dropdown field needed to enable software to read it are the two Country fields which feature under "Address" and "Business Address".

As it stands any software building a directory has to allow for every conceivable way someone might input a country name into a free-format field eg: for United States it could be: US, USA, US of A, United States, United States of America, America.

Multiply the various ways of inputting a country's name by the number of countries and you have an unnecessary level of complexity for software attempting to build a directory to contend with - so much easier to have a pre-defined dropdown list.

Hopefully Telnic can rectify this lack of pre-defined dropdown lists for Business Area and Country soon.
