United Domains is pre-registering about 90 of the new generic top-level domains (new gTLDs).

Already over 897.285,000 new gTLDs pre-registered!

In the first three positions of the most popular domains:
    .web 119,642 pre-registrations
    .shop 73,459 pre-registrations
    .site 55,637 pre-registrations

The list of the first 50 most requested new gTLDs is on:
    http://www.uniteddomains.com/newgtld-ranking/

I have the impression that .web will become the most popular domain after the .com

.net and .org have a very good reputation.
It's not so easy to get ahead of them.
Even .info is on the decline.

This number looks much better when written in this way: 897,402

Silvano, thanks for the link, it shows where the focus of domain investors, software developers and power users will be in 2013.

My fear is that .TEL EVEN WITH WORLDWIDE MARKETING will get lost in the noise surrounding the biggest shake-up in the internet's history.

I was going to say more, but to be honest, like many on both TelTalk and Telnic's forum, I am growing tired of the .Tel debacle that currently exists !

It was good fun while it lasted - wasn't it ?

the answer for all the open questions and speculations on this forum is so easy to find
telnic has realized their business isn’t working
they are shutting down telnic and try their luck new with telnames
this gets clear when thinking about why development, roadmap, newsletter and forum have been canceled

Telnic can't actually shut the Telnic registry down, since then there would be no .tel extension in operation for Telnames to use !

FYI with each gTLD bid acceptance ICANN demand an insurance bond that covers the cost of operating the gTLD for a period in the case of failure of the registry company.

IMO it actually makes a lot of business sense, as well as bringing some relief to the investors who parted with $35,000,000 in hard cash, for Telnic Ltd. the registry to be sold (there are buyers around for gTLDs) leaving Kash and co. free to focus on Telnames, the only form of .tel being marketed.

Of course it would also mean the people on TelTalk and Telnic forums would have to place their development wishes for the original subdomain version of .tel with new faces !

You can almost hear a sigh of relief from Kash & co.as they:
    - placate disappointed investors in Telnic Ltd.
    - free themselves from the constant demands for enhancements to the original subdomain version of .tel
    - are able to focus on the marketing of Telnames .tels without distraction.

Sounds like a game plan to me !

There is a big discussion going on about the sense and nonsense of so many new top level domains.
IMHO it would need many, many years to succeed only for one of them.

Uncertain if this will come, but that would be the most interesting extension for branding:
